USC got their first commitment of the calendar year back in February at the Trojans’ Junior Day, in the form of defensive lineman Tashon Smallwood. Today, one of the anchor’s of Lane Kiffin’s 2014 recruiting class stepped back a little bit, publishing his top five schools.
Making the list via Twitter, is Miami, UCLA, USC, Alabama and Arizona State, written exactly as such. Whether or not the order of the list means anything, is unknown for now, though he’s still being publicly treated as a USC commit. Again, for now.
Since Smallwood committed to USC in February, his biggest offers have been San Jose State and Wisconsin, which included an in-home visit from the Badgers’ defensive line coach Chad Kauha’aha’a, according to 247. Yet, neither the Badgers nor Spartans made the list.
Smallwood is a 6-foot-1, 285 pound defensive tackle out of Central East High School in Fresno, and has been recruited from USC by newly-named offensive coordinator Clay Helton, who recruits the Northern California region.
The 2014 class currently stands at five commitments, including two other defensive linemen: Michael Wyche and Austin Malota. Wyche is a junior college defensive tackle from Virginia, who has now made his home at East LA College for the 2013 season, while Maloata will also play a new school this upcoming season, following a transfer to Corona Centennial.
