A new mock draft has been released by NBADraft.net, and this time former USC center Dewayne Dedmon is ranked 49th overall and is predicted to be taken by the Chicago Bulls in the impending NBA draft.
Dedmon announced via Twitter in April that he would declare for this year’s NBA Draft, electing to forgo his senior year and to play under new head coach Andy Enfield. The decision came as a surprise to many; Dedmon averaged 6.7 points and 7.0 rebounds as a junior at USC, but was still extremely raw and was not perceived to be NBA-ready. His bolt from Troy led many to speculate that his decision was motivated by charges looming from a Spokane bar fight, which ultimately forced he and fellow Trojan James Blasczyk to miss the Pac-12 Tournament.
USC never publicly commented on the situation, but it is possible that the university intended to further punish Dedmon for the incident, penalties that may have carried over into next season.
Whatever the reason, Dedmon declared for the draft early, and the seven-footer has already improved his draft stock a bit since April. He was invited to and participated in the NBA combine, which ran from May 15-19 in Chicago. Going into the event, Draft Express had him rated as the No. 72 overall player out of 100, and NBADraft.net had him ranked No. 62.
