The 2013 college football season kicks off in just over two months, and the preseason honors are already being dealt out to stand-out athletes across all conferences. Phil Steele released his 2013 Preseason All-Pac-12 Team on Wedesday, and Trojans Marqise Lee, Morgan Breslin and Hayes Pullard have all earned first team selections.
Lee is the only offensive Trojan to make the first team, though fellow receiver Nelson Agholor, tailback Silas Redd and offensive linemen Kevin Graf and John Martinez got nods for the second team. Marcus Martin and Max Tuerk got third and four team selections, respectively.
As a sophomore, Lee finished the season as a unanimous All-American and became the first Trojan ever to win the Biletnikoff Award. He had 112 catches for 1,680 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2012, including a particularly impressive performance against Arizona where he had 16 receptions for 345 yards and two touchdowns.
Aside from this preseason honor, Lee is considered to be a strong contender for the Heisman trophy in 2013.
Pullard and Breslin earning preseason honors comes as no surprise either, as both were pivotal members of USC’s defense in 2012. Pullard had 107 tackles, a forced fumble and a pick-six on the season, while Breslin–after flying extremely under the radar as a junior college transfer–impressed everyone with 62 tackles(including a team-high 19.5 for losses of 107 yards), a team-best 13 sacks, four deflections, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery all in his first season at Troy.
Defensive lineman Leonard Williams and linebacker Dion Bailey got named to the All-Pac-12 second team, and George Uko, Lamar Dawson and Torin Harris were named to the third team.
