The USC Trojans track and field teams travel to Austin, TX this week to compete against a number of other collegiate programs in the NCAA West Region Championships, hosted by the University of Texas Thursday, May 23-25. From here, qualifying teams advance to the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Oregon June 5-8.
For Southern California, a number of headliners will give it their all this weekend for one of those coveted spots in the NCAA Championships.
In the men’s 100-meter dash junior Aaron Brown and sophomore BeeJay will represent for the Trojans, and in the 200m, standout senior Bryshon Nellum, sophomore Devonte Stewart and Brown will race for a spot in the finals. Nellum currently holds the fastest collegiate time in this event and recently in the Pac-12 Championships, the Trojans swept this winners’ podium.
Nellum will then compete in his signature event, the open 400, of which he currently holds one of the fastest collegiate times in the country.
In the 400m hurdles, Trojan Reggie Wyatt–who spent the past summer representing Team USA in the London Olympics–will take to the track with hopes of earning a second appearance at the NCAA Championships.
For the women, sprinters Loudia Laarman, Akawkaw “Coco” Ndipagbor will compete in the 100 meters, Jenna Puterbaugh and Vanessa Jones in the 200m and Ashley Liverpool in the 400m.
