The kickoff time of USC’s season opener on Oahu against Norm Chow’s Hawaii Warriors has been set, per USC. The familiar foes will kick off at 5:00 p.m. locally in Honolulu, making it an 8:00 p.m. start in Los Angeles, on Thursday, August 29th, mirroring the start of the 2010 campaign.
The game will take place on the CBS Sports Network, as the Trojans will make their debut on the channel formerly known at CSTV and CBS College. Last year, CBS Sports kicked off their college football lineup with a Thursday nighter in Houston, as UCLA matched up against Rice.
It’ll be the second consecutive game for the Trojans on the CBS family of networks, following the Sun Bowl debacle on New Year’s Eve. Before that, USC had not played a game on a CBS property in nearly 10 years, dating back to Matt Leinart’s 23-0 debut victory at Auburn in 2003.
When USC started their 2010 campaign in Hawaii in an ESPN Thursday night affair, Lane Kiffin had the Trojans depart for the Aloha State on Tuesday evening. Just like then, that falls in line with the second day of school, as the fall 2013 semester at USC is slated to begin on Monday, August 26th.
The Trojans are expected open fall camp on Saturday August 3rd, two days earlier than normal, to anticipate the Thursday opener.
