USC held its third scrimmage of the spring on Saturday, and it was what head coach Lane Kiffin described as the best day of camp for the offense so far. He also elaborated about the development at center
Here are the highlights from the scrimmage:
The Trojans ran 52 plays in Saturday’s scrimmage. Cody Kessler went 5-9 for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while Wittek was 3-5 for 84 yards and one touchdown.
One of Kesslers most impressive plays came when he perfectly heaved a long ball down the sideline to WR Nelson Agholor, who ultimately scored. Agholor had two touchdowns on the day and defensively, J.R. Tavai had 1.5 sacks.
RB Justin Davis had a great day for himself, having 11 carries for 54 yards and two scores.
RB DJ Morgan and WR Marqise Lee didn’t practice. Morgan hurt his knee in Thursday’s practice but Kiffin said it is not a serious injury, and Lee is still being held out because of his knee as well.
Kiffin said that OL Marcus Martin will likely be the center in 2013.
While the offense played particularly well on Saturday, the cornerbacks did not. Kiffin was not pleased with their performance, and this continues to be an ongoing area of struggle for the Trojans.
The Trojans begin their fourth week of practice on Tues., Apr. 2. This practice will be closed to the public.
