The recruiting is over for Matthew Thomas, who has selected to play out his college football career with the Florida State Seminoles, choosing them over both USC and Miami.
In addition to his top three, Thomas, the second rated outside linebacker in the country according to Rivals, had a final five that was rounded out with Alabama and Georgia. This past weekend, Thomas concluded his visits with a trip to Athens to visit Mark Richt’s Bulldogs, though it wasn’t enough for the five-star linebacker to pledge his name to UGA.
Thomas, a Miami, FL native, made multiple visits to Tallahassee, and just one trip to USC, which came on January 18th alongside the Trojans’ commits. He joins a Florida State class that entered the day with 18 committed players, including four other linebackers.
For the Trojans, without Thomas, they’ll look ahead to another Florida linebacker, Quinton Powell, who will make his decision known just after 9:15 a.m. Pacific on ESPNU. Powell is considering USC in addition to Miami, Oregon and South Carolina, but since Florida dropped him this past weekend, the long-time Gator commit appears to be a lock for the Trojans. But alas, we’ll have to wait and see.
