National Signing Day 2013 is just one day away but it’s never too early to start looking ahead to 2014, something that Lane Kiffin and company have done of late, handing out a slew of scholarship offers. Recently, Serra defensive back Adoree’ Jackson received an offer from the Trojans, followed by safety John ‘JuJu’ Smith out of Long Beach Poly. On Monday, Kiffin doled out quite a few more offers, including five more notable defensive players:
- Delvin Purifoy, 4-star linebacker (Pensacola, FL):
- Dante Sawyer, 4-star defensive end (Suwanee, GA):
- Deondre Clark, 4-star defensive end (Oklahoma City, OK):
- Joshua Frazier, 4-star defensive tackle (Springdale, AR):
- Jacob Pugh, 4-Star linebacker (Tallahassee, FL):
Of the players offered by USC on Monday, Purifoy is the most decorated, as an All-State honoree in 2012. The inside linebacker prospect has a slew of offers and committed to Florida State last month, eight months after the Noles first offered him. In addition to USC, Lane Kiffin’s former stomping grounds, Tennessee, has also extended an offer Purifoy’s way.
Both Arkansas and USC offered Sawyer on Monday, joining Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State, among others. Sawyer is set to attend Ohio State’s Junior Day this month and has had several in-home visits, even as a junior.
USC joined a handful of major programs to be in on Clark, with LSU perhaps leading the charge. In addition to Les Miles’s Tigers, Clark has offers from Clemson, Notre Dame and South Carolina, and has both visited and has an offer from the in-state Oklahoma Sooners.
Per 247Sports’ Class of 2014 rankings, Frazier is the highest rated, garnering a 96 rating. Frazier, who hails from the same hometown as former Trojans Mitch Mustain and Damian Williams, has offers from five different teams, including two-time defending National Champion Alabama, who offered him a scholarship last June.
A native of Tallahasse, it’s no surprise that Pugh is interested in the Florida State Seminoles. This past season, Pugh took six unofficial visits to FSU on gamedays but has yet to field an offer from Jimbo Fisher’s Noles. USC joins Miami, North Carolina and South Carolina in the major schools to have offered him at this point.
