Powell 15th rated outside linebacker in Class of 2013 and ranked 190 in the final Rivals 250.
Powell visited USC with a slew of other recruits last weekend, as he got to meet new defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast for the first time. With Powell playing the role of outside linebacker, his value increases in the hybrid 3-4 system that Pendergast brings to Los Angeles, as the Trojans will operate with three down linemen, three true linebackers and a stand-up hybrid linebacker.
The Trojans currently have just one linebacker committed to the 2013 class, Michael Hutchings, the most solid verbal commit of the fall enrollees. With the 3-4 defense, USC has a big need for linebackers, especially since there has been rumors of Dion Bailey converting to safety, and 2012 signees Jabari Ruffin and Scott Starr having minimal game experience due to redshirt years last season.
For the Florida Gators, Powell would be the fourth four-star linebacker in the Class of 2013, as five-star outside linebacker Alex Anzalone highlights an early enrollee bunch that includes Daniel McMillian and Matt Rolin.
USC currently has 13 commits and four openings, while Florida has 25 commitments with three spots remaining.
