Last week, four-star defensive back Jermaine Kelly pledged his name to Steve Sarkisian’s Washington Huskies. This morning, the Salesian High athlete had an in-school visit from USC head coach Lane Kiffin. News of the meeting went viral when a person close to Kelly snapped a photo of him and Kiffin, then promptly uploaded it to Instagram.
Kelly, the 21st ranked defensive back according to Rivals, originally committed to UCLA over the summer, only to de-commit in December. Initially, Boise State looked to be seriously in mix as Kelly was spotted wearing BSU gear at a high school football function, though Washington closed fast.
With news of the loss of Nickell Robey to the NFL breaking yesterday, and Torin Harris’s academic ineligibility playing a role in his Sun Bowl absence, the Trojans have a serious need at cornerback.
Chris Hawkins is an early enrollee and Jalen Ramsey is committed as a fall enrollee, but a third corner and one as highly rated as Kelly would be a huge pull for Kiffin’s class.
According to Scout’s Greg Biggins, Kelly has one of the best high school highlight reel that he’s ever seen, as seen here.
USC’s Class of 2013 currently stands at 14 commitments, with three open spots remaining before Signing Day, which falls on February 6th.
