After USC’s loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, WR Robert Woods made the announcement that he will not return to USC in favor of pursing an NFL career.
Many had expected Woods to leave for the NFL now that he is draft eligible, and he does indeed intend to do so. With his QB, Matt Barkley graduating and leaving for the NFL, and after the way 2012 went for Woods, he really did not have much to return to at USC.
The junior wide receiver who is USC’s career reception leader has been making heads turn since his freshman year at USC, though a foot injury hampered his progression over the past two seasons. Still, he amassed 249 receptions for 2,897 yards and 32 touchdowns over the past three seasons. Woods’ role in the Trojan offense changed a bit in 2012, as most of Lane Kiffin’s plays were designed to favor Marqise Lee (and everyone and their mom saw it coming), but when giving his moment, he still shined nonetheless.
With Woods leaving, the Trojans will have a pretty young receiving corps in 2013, with phenom Marqise Lee and freshman Nelson Agholor headlining the bunch. USC will also bring in Steven Mitchell and Sebastian LaRue on National Signing Day.
