The Trojans have slowly pushed the envelope as aided by long-time apparel provider Nike, and they’ll continue to do so in the 2012 Sun Bowl, as the team will be wearing their second set of cardinal and gold cleats of the season.

Robert Woods and other players uploaded pictures to both Twitter and Instagram this afternoon, as the team was given their cleats ahead of Monday’s bowl game with Georgia Tech.

The Trojans will pair their new cleats with their traditional white road tops, as they were determined to be the road team for the 2012 Sun Bowl, while Georgia Tech is the home team.

As the home team, Tech had the option to wear the jerseys of their choice, and while they traditionally wear white both home and away, the Yellow Jackets chose to wear colored tops. USC will wear white jerseys for the first time since losing to Arizona back in October.

Back to the feet, this is the third change the Trojans have endured in 18 months. During the 2011 spring camp, the Trojans wore black socks for the first time and ruffled a few feathers of the USC fan base, but that was somewhat tame compared to 2012.

Before this season, USC unveiled cardinal, gold and silver cleats for the 2012 season. Those cleats, which we profiled back in August, were accompanied with cardinal and gold socks.
