USC vs. Long Beach State: Trojans Lead 49ers 29-24 At The Half


The Trojans are knee deep in a tight game with the Long Beach State 49ers, pulling away only slightly as they entered the half.

Newly acquired big man Omar Oraby has continued to show his worth to the Trojans, putting up four points, grabbing three boards and having one assist. G J.T. Terrell, F Eric Wise and F Ari Stewart, also new names to the Trojan roster have been leading in this effort, having 22 of SC’s 29 first half points. Wise also had nine rebounds and two assists on the half.

In one and a half games, the newcomers to Troy are proving to be just what USC needs to get people excited about Trojan hoops again. The Trojans are really rotating players in and out of the game, which could give SC the edge to outlast the 49ers in this contest.

Despite how well the Trojans have been playing, Long Beach is pushing back just as hard. G Mike Caffey has 13 points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal and has been relentless in his pursuit of buckets. He dazzled with an incredible dunk off an alley-oop early in the half, sending Long Beach fans in the Galen Center into a tizzy. But The Beach has had some issues will ball security, turning the ball over nine times in the first half. USC–who has eight TOs of its own–has yet to capitalize on any of these turnovers, and the team that adjusts in the second half to take better care of the ball could be the one that beings to pull away with a big lead.
