The Trojans have wrapped up practice for the week on Thursday and will travel Friday to Tuscon. Thursday’s practice was pretty light with no major developments, but the university released some interesting defensive stats to mull over while the Trojans face the Arizona Wildcats.
Thursday’s wrap up:
Kiffin wouldn’t say if Max Tuerk will get the start at left tackle Saturday, nor has he made one for CB 2. He said a lot of guys have rotated through that corner spot this week. If Tuerk does get the nod, he will be the first true freshman to start at LT in USC history.
Coach Kiffin on Tuerk: “We are really comfortable with this situation. If he plays, I think he will play really well just like he has.”
The USC defense is tied for second in the nation in sacks per game. DE Morgan Breslin leads with 7, followed by DT Leonard Williams who has 5.5
Kiffin praised the progress the defensive line specifically, which was though to be a weak spot three months ago: “If you go back to training camp, they were a big question. To do what they’ve done already has been great. And obviously, we are going to need them with some big time offenses coming up.”
The Trojan defense has also forced 22 turnovers this season. Coincidentally, that is exactly how many Arizona has given up through seven weeks.
