The USC Trojans had an odd game of sorts against Utah, as they flashed both mistake-prone football along with some joga bonito in the second half. For the Trojans however, didn’t exactly impress the sportswriters, as USC got bumped up two spots to No. 11 in the AP Poll, despite four ranked teams losing ahead of them. In the Coaches Poll, Troy was put back into the Top 10, sitting at No. 9, just behind the 5-1 LSU Tigers.
The biggest shakeup in the polls has to be the Florida Gators, who propelled six spots to No. 4 in the AP Poll following their defensive struggle and victory against LSU. Their arch rivals, the Florida State Seminoles, didn’t have the same fate, as Jimbo Fisher’s squad fell nine spots to No. 12 following their upset loss to N.C. State, on the road in Raleigh. Who took the ‘Noles perch at No. 3? South Carolina, who manhandled Georgia 35-7. As a reward, the Gamecocks now have two tough road battles within the SEC, with games at LSU and at Florida in the next two weeks.
In the Pac-12, losses by UCLA and Washington knocked them out of the polls, while Mike Riley’s Miracle Beavers keep on winning and are now a top 10 team in the AP Poll, as they’re ranked No. 10, just ahead of the Trojans. The Coaches Poll isn’t exactly thrilled with the #BeaverJuice gang, as the Beavers rank No. 14.
Stanford’s thrilling overtime win over Arizona lofted them back up to No. 17 in both polls, while Oregon’s rout of Washington gave them solid footing at No. 2, while even garnering a lone first place vote in the Coaches’ Poll.
