The Trojans gathered at Howard Jones on Sunday to begin their preparation for the Washington Huskies. Going into next Saturday’s game, USC will be ranked No. 9 in the Coaches’ Poll, No. 11 in the AP, and will debut at No. 10 in the first Harris Poll of the season.
Here’s the happenings from Sunday’s practice:
USC practiced in full pads today. Kiffin said it was a very good opportunity to get ahead and that it was a spirited practice.
Kiffin fielded questions about his take on Oregon’s blowout of Washington on Saturday. He said that the Huskies losing effort to the Ducks was not indicative of “where the programs were.”
After Thursday’s win WR Marqise Lee quipped that if he could, he would be open to spending some time at cornerback to try and compensate for USC’s struggle to fill that role opposite Nickell Robey. According to Kiffin, the coaches “have discussed” the possibility of using him there, but there has been no final decision. Their primary concern is that it will take away from his responsibilities at wideout. if Lee does get some playing time at corner, it will likely not be this season.
Kiffin said that WR Robert Woods was checked again for a concussion when he got back to LA and he passed all the tests.
In regards to the poll, Kiffin said he wasn’t aware the team moved up into the top-10 in the Coaches’ poll. He said there is “lots of football left”, so he doesn’t pay attention to that.
USC will be on the road this week, traveling to CenturyLink field for their match-up with the Huskies.
