Per Gary Klein of the LATimes, USC cornerback Brian Baucham–who left the Coliseum on Saturday in the second half–remains hospitalized as of Monday night because of a breathing issue.
The issue has not been specified, but according to a person close to the situation, it was indeed triggered at some point during USC’s victory over Cal.
The fifth-year senior was on a ventilator Saturday and Sunday while in the hospital. As of Monday, he was taken off the ventilator as his condition improved. Against Cal, Baucham recorded three tackles before leaving the game. Medical staff attended to him on the sideline before he eventually left in an ambulance.
According to The Times, the USC Athletic Department declined comment on the situation. As a part of their new policies for the 2012 season, the Trojans are no longer disclosing injury information.
It is possible we will not know the outcome of this situation until Baucham does or does not return to practice this week. If he cannot, that will be yet another blow to USC’s defensive depth, which was just hit by the loss of Scott Starr for the season, due to a neck injury.
