USC’s 2012 fall football training camp officially began Monday evening, when the Trojans showed up at Howard Jones Field for the first team practice of the season. The football team moved into Fluor Tower on Sunday, where all the players will for the next few weeks until the season starts.
Practice began at 7:30 under the lights at Howard Jones and ended around 9:45.
Notes from Day One:
Silas already feels apart of the Trojan Family, says CBS’s Bruce Feldman.
Robert Woods apparently looked sharp out on the field Monday, but was held out towards the end of practice as a precaution. He claims his ankle is “100%” healthy, however.
Anthony Brown got reps with the 1st team opposite Nickell Robey at cornerback, and Morgan Breslin got 1st team reps at defensive end with JR Tavai.
George Farmer, Khaled Holmes and Wes Horton left practice early due to minor injuries and cramps, but nothing looked serious.
Freshman WR Nelson Agholor is listed as No. 83 on the roster, but says he’s switching to No. 15 for the season. Interestingly, it is being reported that Coach Kiffin says he is “permanently” at WR.
Newcomer Silas Redd is going to keep his number, 25, which was previously worn by safety Gerald Bowman. Bowman will now wear No. 27.
Charles Burks took reps at running back, instead of Agholor.
LB Marquis Simmons and CB Isiah Wiley did not practice, as they are awaiting summer school grades to be released, which will determine their eligibility for the season.
The Trojans will resume practice at 7:30 Tuesday evening.
