Class of 2013 wide receiver commit Eldridge Massington has what is being said as an ACL tear, according to 247Sports’s Scott Schrader via Twitter.

Massington is one of three receivers who have put on a Trojans’ cap so far this summer, alongside Steven Mitchell and Sebastian LaRue. An injury to him makes things interesting for the Trojans, who just lost out on Paul Harris.
Harris was said to favor the Trojans, but the issue of depth and scholarship limitations ultimately forced him to commit to Tennessee this afternoon. Should Massington’s injury be severe, we’ll have to wait and see if Harris is to open up his recruitment, if USC does in fact decide to pull Massington’s scholarship.
The injury isn’t entirely uncommon for top recruits, as Penn State commit Adam Breneman, the top tight-end in the nation, suffered a torn ACL last month.
Despite the four to six week outlook that Massington was quoted with, he’s likely to miss most, if not all of his senior season and not be ready for full contact drills until next fall, whether that be at USC or elsewhere.
Massington struggled at The Opening two weeks ago, getting what Mike Farrell of Rivals called the ‘Jekyll & Hide’ award for being inconsistent.
We’ll have more on Massington as we hear it.
