The day has come for Su’A Cravens, the top athlete/safety in the country and No. 4-ranked athlete on the ESPNU 150, to announce his college decision. Today, which also happens to be Craven’s mother’s birthday, he will break the hearts of about 30 other schools when he decides to take just one to the ball. Just over a month ago we first introduced you to Cravens, who is considered by some recruiting experts to be a lock for USC.
However, USC is not the only favorite for the safety out of Vista Murietta High School. Ohio State, Michigan, and UCLA are also high on his priority list.
Cravens has crazy talent as a two-way player, playing both safety at running back. As a junior, Cravens rushed for 673 yards and 15 touchdowns, and also caught 20 passes for 339 yards and more four TDs. On defense, Cravens finished with 100 tackles, 11 sacks and three interceptions. If he does indeed commit to USC, his versatility would be well suited to the Trojans, who are in short supply of ball carriers. Not only that, but also on the defensive side of the ball he would fit right in with the likes of Josh Shaw and Gerald Bowman in the secondary once T.J. McDonald and Jawanza Starling graduate at the end of the season.
Cravens has said much over the past month about which way he is leaning, but his father, Kevin Cravens, did tell Rivals.com why those four universities made the cut:
“Education is something we stress as a family,” said his father. “For us, this decision came down to the schools that addressed education first and football second.”
Fun Fact: Craves is on track to graduate in December at just 16 years old, and plans to early enroll at whichever school he commits to today, in January.
Cravens is set to make his decision at 11:30 a.m. PST. Check back around then to see which university will get his commitment.
