On Tuesday, Lane Kiffin moved linebacker Tre Madden to running back, and said that it would talk until at least Sunday to decide if the move would be permanent. Well, it looks as if Madden has excelled beyond expectation, because after Saturday’s scrimmage, Kiffin announced that Madden would indeed remain a ball carrier.
And it makes complete sense: Madden is six feet tall and 225 pounds, and provides a size/speed combination that could be a lethal component of the Trojan offense. Beyond that, adding Madden to the running back corps is a great move in terms of adding depth to the position, because as we have noted, the Trojans don’t have a lot of it.
Madden has nine practices left in spring ball to adjust to his new position. If he keeps impressing the coaches in the way that he has been, it is possible that he could win the No. 2 spot behind Curtis McNeal, ahead of redshirt sophomore D.J. Morgan.
